Open Letter to GOP leaders in Nebraska

Something is amiss.

The GOP has hundreds if not thousands of new energetic Republicans registered to vote in Nebraska (as in other States), but many State GOP’s welcome mats appear to have been pulled in. Not only that, but chortling can be heard behind that locked door – “we sure fooled them, didn’t we”.

In Nevada, the GOP leaders appear ready to have no delegation in St. Paul rather than allow any delegates to represent their State's second place winner. And Nevada is not alone.

These new Republicans are mostly young and impressionable and looking for a political home, possibly for life. While the GOP ‘old guard’ loses even safe seats in Congress, they still reject these new Republicans. Why?

These new Republicans believe strongly in the second amendment, they want fiscal responsibility, they demand that promises made to our military and our seniors be kept with real value pumped back into our dollars. They believe in lower taxes and lower spending. They understand that with individual liberty comes responsibility. They don’t want DC limiting options for our families’ health care. They are skeptical that centrally planned bureaucracies can stay true to their stated goals after decades focused on budget. They worry that the relationships between some groups and some agencies like the pharmaceuticals and the FDA or the FCC and the mainstream media moguls has become toxic to our individual liberty.

Aren’t these GOP beliefs.

These Republicans want national sovereignty and the ability for us to decide who comes into our country. They don’t want NAFTA or CAFTA or a North American Union with multiple lane highways bisecting our nation from Mexico to Canada. They don’t want the U.N. or any body of appointees from outside the control of the US Congress making decisions for us. They want a free market and they want a sound currency.

Aren’t these GOP beliefs.

Its starting to appear the GOP and these new Republicans have more in common than they do differences. So why the junior high clichés treatment?

These new Republicans drive hundreds of miles to hear a Republican speak, donate large sums of money on the Internet and gather to watch debates as a group. These new Republicans find individual liberty so refreshing, they start their own fund raising websites and make their own political signs.

It’s true that these new members have grave concerns for the value of our dollar. As the dollar trembles around the world, they realize we cannot maintain the level of troops overseas, or continue to borrow from China to pay off Pakistan and others, and keep our promises to seniors or veterans?

Is that what the ‘old guard’ finds so objectionable?

The last GOP meeting I attended, the mean age was around 60+. The GOP should take a second look at Ron Paul supporters. They are young, energetic and have scores of years of voting ahead for them.

Sadly, the hard fought GOP Congress and Bush came into office and poisoned the well by their actions. They passed the Real ID legislation giving us a virtual, biometric national ID. They allowed federal funding to seep deeper into our local law enforcement creating more of a federal police force than the cop on the beat. They allowed budgets to mushroom. They doubled funding to the Education Department instead of closing it. They decided to pursue Saddam based on UN violations when 10 years ago, they wanted us out of the UN - something the Ron Paul GOP want, too.

The fact that McCain is the nominee is not in question, but by excluding the Ron Paul r3V0Lutionaries, it seems the party is cutting off its nose to spite its face. Nebraska could end up with a split Electoral College vote in November after being solidly GOP in 2000. Please consider the importance of these thoughts. Toss off any cloak of exclusivity and accept these new players. The GOP needs them - now more than ever.
