Is government the servant of the citizen or is the citizen the servant of our government? If it is the citizen who is the servant, then involuntary servitude is warranted. Placing our youth into an indentured servant status to DC then makes perfect sense. They do not own themselves. Government owns them and may indenture them at will. If the government is the servant of the citizen, then involuntary servitude appears to be forbidden under the 13th amendment.
From 2007, “To require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform national service , either as a member of the uniformed services or in civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, to authorize the induction of persons in the uniformed services during wartime to meet end-strength requirements of the uniformed services…. ” is copied from Mr. Rangel’s bill. It’s a backdoor draft of our youth to fight for what is fast morphing into an imperial guard. The Presidency became imperial when a cowardly Congress abdicated their responsibility to declare war and the role is considered, by many, as Commander in Chief of the people, as well as the military.
“A statesman is a politician who places himself at the service of the nation. A politician is a statesman who places the nation at his service.” Mr. Rangel has proven himself to be a politician and not a statesman by submitting this bill.
For Time magazine and all the voluntary organizations amassed to put forward involuntary servitude for our youth in clear violation of the 13th amendment shows individual liberty and self ownership is no longer in question. We no longer own our bodies, DC owns our bodies and the principles of individual liberty upon which this nation was founded are only words in tattered documents of the past.
